RTRA Clinic
All students and staff at Raise the Roof Academy & High School have access to medical care through the RTRA Clinic. Our full-time nurse oversees the health and wellbeing of each student, providing primary care and disease prevention training. Students also receive routine dental examinations twice per year. The RTRA nurse and social worker partner together to gain a deeper understanding of each child’s household circumstances, in order to facilitate care based on the unique needs of the student and alert any underlying issues that may impact school attendance or compromise at-home safety.
The clinic offers the following services to students and staff:
urgent, primary, and dental care
prevention and treatment of identified health threats specific to the area including: malaria, HIV/AIDS, typhoid, malnutrition, respiratory infection, tuberculosis, and other infectious and non-communicable diseases
sexual and reproductive health education
maternal and child health
Each year, the RTRA Clinic opens to the community at large, offering disease treatment and dental care for those in attendance. With a permit from the Ugandan government, we are able to see almost 2,000 community members (approximately 1,500 medical patients and 500 dental visits) in one week. We partner with Ugandan and American medical practitioners with the expertise and training to provide the best care possible.
